Ludwig van Beethoven - Duett mit zwei obligaten Augengläsern Es-dur WoO 32 für Viola und Violoncello
The tongue-in-cheek title of this charming chamber music piece probably refers to two performers who wear glasses. It is unclear who else the short-sighted violist Beethoven might have been referring to other besides himself. Perhaps it is his friend Zmeskall. In any case, it must have been an accomplished musician, as the cello part is demanding throughout. Beethoven probably originally planned a complete string duo with four movements. Aside from the introductory movement, a minuet has also survived that is likewise published here. Our single edition, taken from the established volume “String Trios and String Duos” (HN 192), will certainly secure many new friends for this original work.
