Aby Warburgs 1926 in Hamburg gegründete kulturhistorische Forschungsbibliothek gelangte 1933 nach London ins Exil. Als Teil der University of London erhielt sie 1958 ein eigenes Gebäude im Stadtteil Bloomsbury. Für den schlichten und reizvollen Entwurf war der Architekt Charles Holden verantwortlich. Das Warburg Institute wurde 2018–2024 im Rahmen einer konzeptionellen Neuaufstellung umfassend saniert und durch das Architekturbüro Haworth Tompkins behutsam baulich erweitert.
