The development of Bavarian security institutions (Ministry of the Interior, State Criminal Office, State Office for the Protection of the Constitution) from 1945–1970 shaped a variety of strategies and actors, some of them competing. Franziska Walter examines how the interplay between debates over competence areas, perceptions of danger, personnel continuities, upheavals, and administrative logics shaped Bavaria’s security architecture.
