Im Frühjahr 1781 weigerten sich 86 Seefahrer auf Westerlandföhr, der Einziehung zur dänischen Flotte Folge zu leisten und wurden deshalb durch ein Militärkommando zum Dienst gezwungen. Eine Reihe von Missverständnissen seitens der verschiedenen Beteiligten an diesem Vorfall verursachte einen größeren Konflikt.
