Funde aus der Lübecker Altstadt II
The volume presents another five studies on everyday life in early Lübeck, that were finished some time ago. They deal with the production, function, and fashion of Medieval patten overshoes frequently encountered in find complexes at Lübeck [Haak 2004], with the masses of leather finds from an excavation in the merchants’ quarter at Alfstraße/Fischstraße in Lübeck including items such as shoes, belts, bags, and production waste [Groenman-van Waateringe, undated] as well as with metal dress accessories of the Middle Ages and Early Modern times from Lübeck, e. g. buttons, buckles, belt components, fittings, pendants, rings, pilgrim badges etc. [Morawski 1996]. Other topics are a Late Medieval find complex with high-quality imported glass vessels, e. g. from Venice and Muslim countries, found at Lübeck’s oldest monastery, the former Johanniskloster [Pause/Steppuhn 1999] and special functional types of Medieval household pottery from Lübeck, namely globular jugs, pots with a long handle, and pots with beaded feet that were used for cooking, serving, and storage [Drenkhahn 1999].
