Besides Greek history, the history of Cyprus is one of Heinz A. Richter's main areas of research. Among other works, he has published a three-volume History of Cyprus (Peleus 109–111) in the same book series. This volume brings together for the first time in English contributions by Richter that have appeared scattered in German-language periodicals. These essays deal with important events in the 19th and 20th centuries and were first published in the 1990's. While all articles go into details, the last one is an overview and a kind of resume of the entire period. The articles are worth reading both as individual studies and as in-depth reading to complement Richter's comprehensive description of the history of Cyprus, suitable not only for specialists but also for a wider audience.
