Hafenplanungen, Industrialisierung, Bahnanlagen – der Grasbrook wurde in seinem östlichen Teil ständigen Veränderungen unterworfen. Hier liegt das Oberhafenquartier, das aus den von Ende des 19. bis Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts errichteten Schuppenanlagen des Hauptgüterbahnhofs besteht. Um 2000 stillgelegt und teilweise bereits für neue Nutzungen ertüchtigt, stellen sie die Grundlage des Transformationsprozesses zum sogenannten Kreativquartier dar.
