„NUN MEHR – MEANTIME“ handelt von der Transzendierung von Zeit und Raum. Maaria Wirkkala setzt einer bedrohten Gegenwart eine tiefe Poesie entgegen. Sie verbindet Weltanschauungen und macht die Würde von Orten sichtbar. Dabei lässt sie uns eine andere Gegenwart durch Kunst erahnen.

Maaria Wirkkala lebt in Espoo (Finnland) und in Südfrankreich. Sie hat auf dieser Welt viele Orte künstlerisch verwandelt. Fast immer arbeitet sie ortsspezifisch. Sie nahm drei Mal an der Biennale von Venedig teil, 2007 als Vertreterin Finnlands. Seit dem europäischen Kulturhauptstadtjahr „Graz 2003“ ist Maaria Wirkkala dem KULTUMUSEUM Graz besonders verbunden. 2011 stiftete sie, am Anfang der Museumsidee, eine „ständige Sammlung“. Diese bildet den Ausgangspunkt eines Museums für Gegenwartskunst und Religion, das im steirischen herbst 25 das erste Mal gezeigt wird: den Auftakt dazu bildet NUNMEHR – MEANTIME.

Johannes Rauchenberger ist Kunsthistoriker, Kurator für zeitgenössische Kunst und promovierter Theologe. Er leitet das KULTUMUSEUM Graz und lehrt seit 20 Jahren Gegenwartskunst und Religion an den Universitäten Wien und Graz. Er baut ein Museum auf, das seinen Fokus auf Religion in der Kunst der Gegenwart legt.


“NUN MEHR—MEANTIME” is about transcending time and space. Maaria Wirkkala confronts a threatened present with profound poetry. She connects world views and makes the dignity of places visible. In doing so, she gives us a glimpse of a different present through art.

Maaria Wirkkala lives in Espoo (Finland) and in the south of France. She has artistically transformed many places around the world. Her work is almost always site-specific. She has taken part in the Venice Biennale three times, 2007 as a representative of Finland, and since the European Capital of Culture year ‘Graz 2003’, Maaria Wirkkala has been particularly associated with KULTUMUSEUM Graz. In 2011, she donated a ‘permanent collection’ at the beginning of his museum idea. This forms the starting point for a museum for contemporary art and religion, which will be shown for the first time at steirischer herbst 25: NUNMEHR—MEANTIME.

Johannes Rauchenberger is an art historian, curator of contemporary art and holds a PHD in theology. He has been director of the KULTUMUSEUM Graz and has taught contemporary art and religion at the universities of Vienna and Graz for 20 years. He is building a museum that focuses on religion in contemporary art.
