Logica
A critical edition of Johannes Venator‹s ‹Logica‹ has now been published for the first time. It provides the entire abundance of logic as it was taught in Oxford in the 14th century. Its author, John Huntman, an Oxford scholar and the chancellor of the Lincoln cathedral (1390), was appointed Vicar General to the Bishop of Durham in 1414. In four tractates, his ‹Logic‹ deals with the knowledge and terms of logic at that time, for example suppositions, empirical propositions and ways of proof. This is a comprehensive edition and contains critical annotations and will be very useful for research on logic in the 14th century and to everyone working on the development of thought in the late Middle Ages.
