Das Thema des Kulturkontakts steht seit 2013 im Zentrum des DAI-Forschungsclusters 6 „Connecting Cultures. Formen, Wege und Räume kultureller Interaktion“. Kontaktmodi umfasst Beiträge zu Kulturkontaktprozessen in verschiedenen Epochen und geographischen Regionen, die im Rahmen der gemeinsamen Diskussion der Cluster 6-Teilgruppen ‚Mobilität und Migration‘ und ‚Zonen der Interaktion‘ zwischen 2013 und 2018 entstanden sind. Er ist Ausdruck einer erfolgreichen interdisziplinären Auseinandersetzung mit überregionalen und diachronen Fragestellungen zu dem ebenso komplexen wie facettenreichen Thema des Kulturkontakts. Die Beiträge reflektieren den vielschichtigen Diskurs und die verschiedenen Denktraditionen der beteiligten Disziplinen. Systematisch und kulturvergleichend werden zum einen übergreifende Fragen, zum anderen spezifische Fallstudien zum Thema anhand materieller und schriftlicher Zeugnisse beleuchtet. Cultural contact has been central to the DAI’s Research Cluster 6 “Connecting Cultures, Forms, Routes and Spheres of Cultural Interactions” since 2013. The volume contains papers on processes of cultural contact in various periods and geographical regions that resulted from the joint discussion of the Cluster 6 subgroups “Mobility and Migrations” and “Zones of Interactions” between 2013 and 2018. The volume is an expression of successful interdisciplinary collaboration following transregional and diachronic lines of enquiry on the complex and diverse subject of cultural contact. The papers reflect the multi-layered discourse and the different traditions of thought in the disciplines involved. It offers a systematic and culturally comparative discussion both o overarching questions and of specific case studies on the topic drawing on material and written evidence.
