The critique of Christianity was a critique of dogma and scripture, and the critique of the life of Jesus, which preceded all else, was a critique of Jesus himself. In his lectures on the life of Jesus, Schleiermacher formulated his own Jesus critique – a Christian one. Its aim was to contribute to the modernization of Christian thought by viewing the person of Jesus in a purely human way.
