How do gender, class, racism, and age influence mental health/mental illness? This is the question that this volume takes as a starting point to examine the topoi, motifs, and narrative methods used to represent mental disorders in literature, film, and digital games. It discusses the historic and contemporary (political) dimensions of mental health from the perspectives of literary and media studies, medicine, and the history of gender.
