Muslimisches Leben unter christlicher Herrschaft
Norman Sicily (1060/61-1189) was a crossroads of Latin-Western, Byzantine-Eastern and Islamic-Oriental cultures. The examination of primarily Arab-Islamic sources brought to light insights into Muslim life and its organisation during Christian-Norman rule in Sicily. In the process, it became clear that the Muslims' conceptual and organisational worlds were incongruent. The coexistence of Christians and Muslims in Sicily under Norman rule led to co-operation and conflict in various areas, to mixing and demarcation between the two population groups. With the Norman conquest of Sicily, a slow process of expulsion of the Muslims from what they called their paradise took its course.
