Die 1920 in Lemgo gegründete Volkshochschule wurde im Nationalsozialismus aufgelöst und nahm erst 1946 wieder ihren Betzrieb auf. Erste hauptberufliche Leiterin war die 1913 geborene Dr. Monika Tintelnot, spätere Plessner. Sie schrieb den Entwurf zur Gründung des lippischen Volksbildungswerkes, ein Wegbereiter für die Professionalisierung der lippischen Volkshochschulen.
