Understanding and comparing modes of ventilation
In the absence of legal regulations or normative specifications, ventilator manufacturers continue to define the designations and abbreviations for their ventilation modes on their own. As a result, there is a large variety of designations for similar or even identical ventilation modes, which are often trademarked for competitive and marketing reasons. The problem has not become any smaller after the withdrawal of well-known brands and the presence of new providers on the market. The comparison of ventilation modes from different manufacturers remains difficult. With the "Kronberg List", we want to continuously provide a guide in the maze of ventilation modes and parameters for quick bedside orientation. Comparison tables facilitate the manufacturer-independent comparison of the relevant ventilation forms. A step diagram makes the relevant characteristics of the individual ventilation modes comprehensible and improves the necessary transparency. Due to the increasing importance of out-of-hospital ventilation, so-called home ventilation devices are also taken into account. Measured values, indices and standard values in respiratory medicine round off the contents of the Kronberg List of Ventilation Modes.
