Ramon Llull (Raimundus Lullus, 1232–1316), a fascinating philosopher and mystic of Christianity in the Middle Ages, had a religious epiphany when he was about forty which he interpreted as a divine illumination to change his life radically and as a demand to create a new universal science. Of the 265 works he wrote, this is the first one to be translated completely into German, a little known work entitled ‹To you, blessed Virgin Mary‹ (1290), without a doubt one of his most beautiful and most profound works. The original text in Old Catalan, printed in a synoptic edition in this work, provides a corrected version of the critical version of 1915, which has been out of print for a long time.
