Sergei Tretjakow zählt als Literaturtheoretiker zu den führenden Vertretern der linken Kunst-Avantgarde. Dass er daneben auch einer der aktivsten literarischen Kartographen der frühen Sowjetunion und seiner asiatischen wie europäischen Nachbarn war, ist kaum bekannt. Beginnend mit einem anderthalbjährigen Aufenthalt in Peking 1925/26 publiziert Tretjakow bis zu seiner Hinrichtung 1937 elf Sammelbände mit Reiseskizzen und mehr als hundert Reisereportagen, die zu den wichtigsten Dokumenten der sowjetischen Geopoetik zwischen Avantgarde und Frühstalinismus zählen. Few people know that he was also one of the most active literary cartographers of the early Soviet Union and its Asian and European neighbours. On the basis of a year and a half spent in Beijing in 1925/26, Tretyakov published eleven anthologies of travel sketches and more than a hundred travel reports over a period of ten years.
