Die am Molkenmarkt gelegene Gasse "Am Krögel" bestand seit dem Mittelalter und fiel 1935 der nationalsozialistischen Stadtplanung zum Opfer. Zuvor hatte der Krögel eine steile Karriere durchlaufen. Von einer in der Gründerzeit als schmutzig und rückständig angesehenen Sackgasse wurde er zum Höhepunkt der Stadtführungen durch die Altstadt in den zwanziger Jahren.
