Since the texts were written in Latin, they did not appeal to the masses. However, they provide important evidence of the protagonists’ mentality. At the end of the war, skillful diplomacy prevailed over military force, and the threatened political balance of the Italian peninsula could be restored. While the pope continued to instigate wars, Lorenzo de' Medici emerged from the crisis as a mature statesman, able to maintain peace for Florence until his death in 1492.
