August Ferdinand Culmann (1804-1891), liberal-demokratischer Jurist, Mitglied der äußersten Linken in der Frankfurter Paulskirche 1848/49, Teilnehmer am pfälzisch-badischen Aufstand 1849, politischer Flüchtling in Frankreich und schließlich Gründer des Frankenholzer Bergwerks. Ihm war im Jahre 1991 ein Forschungsprojekt der Siebenpfeiffer-Stiftung gewidmet, dessen Ergebnise in diesem Band vorgelegt werden.
