This volume looks at the reception and production of spiritual songs in order to sound out spaces for translation in the German Middle Ages. The spectrum ranges from prose translations of Latin hymns and sequences to verse translations and free adaptations based on the liturgical tradition. Deliberations on translation theory round off the case studies, which encompass the early to late Middle Ages.
