This study analyzes the German reception of two hymns of the Hours, "Patris sapientia" and "Matutino tempore," from the Late Middle Ages and Early Modern period. It focuses on the role of the vernacular adaptations between the poles of liturgical structure and personal prayer. This book provides an edition of the translations of these two hymns of the Hours, which are explored here for the first time.
