Wegen Zugehörigkeit zur Burschenschaft und der Veröffentlichung oppositioneller Schriften wurde Heinrich Laube (1806-1889) mehrmals verurteilt. Eine 1837 verhängte Verurteilung zu eineinhalb Jahren Festungshaft konnte er dank der Beziehungen des Fürsten Herrmann von Pückler-Muskau auf dessen Schloss verbüßen. Hier stürzte sich Laube in „ein weites Feld literarischer Thätigkeit“.
