Global production and sourcing have shaped material and information flows in dynamic and complex systems. The strategic initiatives of logistic services firms within these systems impel the internationalisation of flows, assets and organisational networks. Therefore, international venturing - acquisitions, alliances and greenfield projects - should be properly considered in their corporate strategy. Internationalisation strategies have to take into account that new frontiers in the global logistic market are located in distant and different environments. Venturing into these diversified markets evokes the importance of prior awareness of contxtual variables as a complementary capability in addition to existent core competences. Planning business abroad is particularly challenging due to contextual diversity. In this setting, conduciveness of organisational boundaries to valuable knowledge, as well as absorptive capacity and organisational learning must be actively fostered.
