Gustave Flaubert veröffentlichte 'Madame Bovary' 1856/1857. Er schuf mit seinem Roman Weltliteratur und zugleich ein Sittengemälde seiner Zeit. Der Autor musste sich hierfür vor Gericht verantworten wegen 'Verstoßes gegen die guten Sitten'. Der Roman beruht allerdings auf einem realen Geschehen, welches Flaubert bereits 1848 einem Zeitungsbericht entnahm.
