Starting from the deconstruction of the concept of taboo and drawing on Foucauldian discourse analysis, this volume investigates contemporary Italian literature that explores the menstrual cycle. Addressing menstruation, cyclicality, menarche, or menopause, the texts under examination propose—and present themselves as—a contre-discours, a subversive, emerging alternative to the dominant stigmatizing discourse.
