Billy Wilder begann als Reporter in Wien, später als Eintänzer und Drehbuchautor in Berlin. 1933 ging er nach Amerika. In Hollywood wurde er Regisseur, er filmte mit den Stars seiner Zeit: mit Gary Cooper, Marlene Dietrich, Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe u.a. Seine Filme gehören bis heute zum Repertoire der TV-Programme.
