Der Kult von Demeter und Kore auf Sizilien und in der Magna Graecia
Pictures of human sacrifices as well as all kinds of acts of violence at holy places can be seen on numerous Etruscan burial monuments from the 4th to the 1st century BC. Although the repertoire of the pictorial themes is manifold, scenes were frequently taken from Greek mythology. This volume examines the encroaching interests which are associated with the presentations of Greek myths in Etruria. The result is that the burial monuments are evidence of a historical situation in which the Etruscan aristocracy cultivates its own religious heritage in order to be able to stand up against rising groups of people internally and to outwardly present themselves in the new centre of power in Rome as the upholder of venerable forms of the cult.
